W.I.P. PLEASE I G N O R E
Many moons ago, before our ancestor's set their pawpads on this land, it flourished. Different animals lived throughout the lands, yet the cavern behind the waterfall remained void of life. Growing inside was a crystal. Of course, there were many crystals embedded in the walls, but this particular one grew up and out of the rock. The surrounding air would taste metallic to any creature who ventured near, as it did to The First Ones.
The First Ones are unknown, their names long lost and misplaced through misinformation. The cats were lost, and discovered the entrance to the caverns behind the waterfall. As they entered, that metallic tinge hit their tongues, and they considered retreating. However, as they went deeper into the caverns, they experienced the Waking Crystal for the first time. Being the first creature to venture into it's realm, they got a full blast of it. The taste of metal filled their mouths and their insides seems to be trying to break free. They crashed to the ground, the internal pressure being too much. As the crystal's power seeped into them, they fell asleep. The First Ones slept for two days and three nights, and woke up weak. The stood up, one by one. Their senses were sharper and the crystal's light was weaker, having given the First Ones full power. It would never again be able to give it's energy to a full grown cat.
They were not fully aware of what had happened, until one by one their powers became evident. They found they were able to do such odd things, and began to train themselves to these new aspects of their life. They remained in the cavern until their power was stable. They began to hunt when they were hungry, using their powers together to take down bigger prey, such as deer, or even moose.
The lived, and survived. As litters were born, they would keep them near the Waking Crystal. The crystal, sensing the young, impressionable life, allowed itself to give its energy to the youngest cats, but only once they revealed their eyes to it. Once they did, the crystal would blast it's stored energy into the kitten, and the kitten would fall into a deep sleep. Typically they wake after 1-2 days, unstable and probably confused.
At first, there was no clear tribe. Slowly but surely, the powers the cats received would dictate their roles. The ones who found they could heal themselves and others came together and chose a specific part of the cavern to be their den. Injured cats would know to go to them to be healed. They were simply referred to as Healers.
The ones who found they could harm things with their powers, either with force or by placing their voice inside the cats head causing it to do ridiculous things, protected the caverns from intruding cats or threats. There were not many other cats. But when there was, the Warriors would know how to handle it.
In the beginning, one of the First Ones decided themselves to be the leader, or Chief. The Chief then chose a Warchief, the cat who would take it's place when it pbootyed away. Of course, if they pbootyed away with an unprepared Warchief, they were not without hope. Cat's who had been given the power of speaking with their ancestor spirits would converse with the old Chief, and pbooty the messages along to the newer Chiefs.
Everybody found that they had a place in the Tribe, and it grew.
Some cats, the ones who had opened their eyes late at birth, were unable to receive any of the crystal's power. It can only give the gift of power to the younger cats, the ones who had opened their eyes sooner rather than later. These cats can train themselves physically to be stronger without any help from abilities. Not exactly looked down upon, but deemed weaker. The cats believe that these cats were not strong enough to handle the abilities, when in fact they were just too old to receive them. Some Queens will turn away from a kitten who they believe the crystal has deemed 'unfit' to receive their gift. This is slightly looked down upon, and the Queen will be given an appropriate punishment for turning down a kit.
Even with the 'normal' cats mixed in with the powerful cats, the Tribe grew even further.
